Master categories
Classify a canonical product once, then choose the category required by each channel.
A master category places a product in SellingIO's own taxonomy. It is separate from the category tree owned by Shopify, TikTok Shop, or another channel.
Assign a master category
Open the product
Open Products, then create a product or edit its basic information.
Choose a leaf category
In Category, browse or search the master category tree and choose the most specific applicable category. Only a leaf category can be assigned to a product.
Save the product
Save the product. The master category path appears with the canonical product in the product list.
How channel categories differ
The master category is SellingIO's classification. A channel category comes from that channel's own tree and can have different names, levels, required attributes, and rules.
SellingIO does not show a separate automatic category-mapping screen for products. Open the product's Channels tab and choose the channel category in each channel profile. The connector supplies that channel's category tree and validates the profile against its rules.
How to check it worked
The product list shows the master category path. In Channels, each connection row separately shows the saved channel category. One does not replace the other.
The category cannot be selected
Choose a category at the end of the master category tree rather than a parent category. If a channel category is missing, edit that channel's profile instead of changing the master category.
