Variants and attributes
Use options to define a product's choices, then give every variant its own values.
Options define the choices a product offers. Variants are the sellable combinations, and attributes record the value of each option on a variant.
How the terms differ
| Term | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Option | Names a dimension that separates variants. | Colour, Size |
| Variant | Represents one sellable combination with its own SKU and price. | Blue / Medium |
| Attribute | Stores a variant's value for one selected option. | Colour = Blue |
Create options and variants
Choose the options
While creating a product, select the option types that distinguish its variants. The selected options become required attribute fields on every variant.
Add each variant
Add at least one variant. Give it a unique SKU, a price, and one value for every selected option.
Check every combination
Make sure no two variants have the same set of attribute values. SellingIO rejects duplicate combinations because a channel cannot distinguish them.
Save the product
After creation, open the product's Variants tab to add or edit variants. The product's option set is read-only after it has been saved.
How to check it worked
Open Variants on the product. Each row shows its SKU, attribute values, price, compare-at price, weight, and stock. The attribute values should identify every row without relying on the SKU alone.
A variant cannot be saved
Check that its SKU is present and not already used by another variant. If the product has multiple variants, also check that every selected option has a value and that the combined values are unique.
